What are Wage Subsidies?

Wage Subsidies is a government-funded program that provides financial assistance to employers who hire eligible job seekers that are linked with Disability Employment Service Providers. This scheme offers up to $10,000 to help cover the costs associated with hiring and onboarding these individuals into sustainable positions. The goal is to encourage employers to expand their talent pool and provide opportunities for individuals who may face barriers to employment.

The Wage Subsidy Scheme is a financial incentive of up to $1,650 (GST inclusive) that is available to qualifying businesses to give eligible jobseekers an opportunity to demonstrate their suitability for ongoing employment

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Wage Subsidy Scheme, employers must:

  • Employ the job seeker for a minimum of 8 hours per week
  • Employ the job seeker for a minimum of 13 weeks
  • Not be receiving another government wage subsidy for the same worker or position

Restart Wage Subsidy

The Restart Wage Subsidy is an Australian government program that provides financial incentives to employers who hire eligible job seekers aged 50 or older. The subsidy is designed to encourage employers to give mature-age job seekers a chance and help them overcome barriers to employment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Restart Wage Subsidy, employers must:

  • Must be registered with a DES provider
  • Must be over the age of 50
  • Employ the job seeker for a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Employ the job seeker for a minimum of 6 months
  • Not be receiving another government wage subsidy for the same worker or position

Wage Start Subsidy

Wage Start is a financial incentive of up to $6,000 (GST inclusive) designed to encourage employers to hire eligible jobseekers who are long-term unemployed. There are only a limited number available each year

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Restart Wage Subsidy, employers must:

  • Must be registered with a DES provider
  • The candidate must not be younger than 15 years old or older than 50.
  • Employ the job seeker for a minimum of 15 hours per week
  • Employ the job seeker for a minimum of 6 months
  • Not be receiving another government wage subsidy for the same worker or position

The Tourism Local Navigator Pilot is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services
